Praying the Hours in Parish Life
On Wednesday, September 24 a Liturgical Workshop on Praying the Hours will be held at the Philadelphia (Episcopal) Cathedral. This event, sponsored by the ecumenical Philadelphia Liturgical Institute and the Buck's Deanery of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania, will center about the observance of Morning and Evening Prayer / Matins and Vespers in parish life. Presenters will include the Rev. Andrew Ciferni, O. Praem, from Daylesford Abbey in Paoli, and the Rev. Patrick Malloy, rector of Grace Episcopal Church in Allentown. Both speakers are well-known liturgical scholars, authors, and consultants. They will address such topics as the history of the hours, various forms of observance, ecumenical initiatives, and practical considerations such as light, movement, and music that can enhance prayer.
