Re: Nominations for Synod Council Members to Be Elected by the 2011 Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod Assembly

As chairperson of the synod’s Nominating Committee, I am asking for your help in identifying gifted and qualified persons, both clergy and lay, to serve as nominees for election at the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod Assembly on May 6-7, 2011.

Every year, the Synod Assembly elects members of the Synod Council, which serves as “the board of directors of the synod” and as “its interim legislative authority between meetings of the Synod Assembly.” The 2011 Synod Assembly will be electing:

•                One Secretary (clergy or lay) for a term ending 2015

•                One Treasurer (clergy or lay) for a term ending 2015

•                Three clergy for terms ending 2014

•                One lay woman at large for a term ending 2014

•                One lay man at large for a term ending 2014

•                One youth representative (lay, male) for a term ending 2013

•                One young adult representative (lay, male) for a term ending 2013

•                One representative (lay, male) from the Chester Conference for a term ending 2014

•                One representative (lay, male) from the Lower Bucks Conference for a term ending 2014

•                One representative (lay, female) from the Lower Montgomery Conference for a term ending 2014

•                One representative (lay, male) from the Upper Montgomery Conference for a term ending 2013

The conferences specified are initially responsible for supplying two nominees for their respective conference representative positions. The Synod Council is responsible for nominating candidates for Secretary and Treasurer.

Please use the enclosed nominating form to suggest one or more persons for the positions under consideration for the Synod Council. (You may make additional copies of the nominating form.) Please submit names of prospective nominees as soon as possible, but before Feb. 18, 2011.

The Nominating Committee requests that all nominees submit a digital photo of themselves and a copy of their answer, in 25 to 50 words, to the following question: “If elected, what spiritual and personal gifts would bring to the Synod Council?”

Completed nominating forms, and answers to the “spiritual and personal gifts” question, should be sent to:

Please note:

•                Those nominated must be active members of congregations of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod.

•                As always, we seek a diversity of candidates.

•                Before suggesting a person, determine whether the person is willing to serve if elected.

•                The Nominating Committee is not required to place in nomination the name of any person suggested.

•                Except for the congregations of the officers and the youth and young adult representatives, two people from the same congregation may not serve on the Synod Council at the same time.
