Help Welcome Church Welcome Street Residents "Home"
The Welcome Church, an outreach to people experiencing homelessness in Center City, is seeking funding from the Pepsi Refresh Project to provide "welcome home kits" and practical support for people transitioning from living on the street into apartments. "Though the move from living on the street to having a place "inside" is a good thing, I discovered early on in my work with people experiencing homelessness that such a move offered its own kind of trauma," says the Rev. Violet C. Little, a pastor of the Welcome Church. "The quiet, loss of community, and changed identification from being 'homeless' to 'housed' many times led to people being back on the street." The project will provide basic starter items to celebrate a person's "homecoming" and also invite the person into a relationship with a group or congregation for emotional and practical support.
Vote now to help the Welcome Church get $5K funding to support eight transitioning persons.
